MT4 Status Bar
Check your MT4 platform's link to the broker server with a quick method. Look at the MetaTrader 4 status bars on the interface. See the MT4 connection bar on the status bar.
The subsequent examples illustrated and explained depict the MT4 Connection Status indicators visible on the MT4 Status Bar:

The MT4 platform status bar is used to show if there's a connection to the servers or not, if there's a connection to the trading server, then a trader can place trades to the online market using MetaTrader 4 charts. When there's a connection MT4 charts can then keep updating - if MetaTrader 4 Charts on your platform are Not Updating - you should first check the connection using MT4 Connection bars on MetaTrader 4 Status Bar.
The green bars on MT4's status bar signify an active connection. Nearby, numerical values display the kilobytes being uploaded and downloaded.
Red Bars - Connection bars in the MT4 Status Bar - show that there is no connection, so trades to the broker's server cannot be started.
Red bars might also indicate that your internet access is not working, so if you are using a connection like dial up and red bars appear, then it might be your internet access, and not necessarily the online broker's computer system. A question that traders often ask is - Why aren't MetaTrader 4 Charts Updating? if your MetaTrader 4 charts are not updating then you may have to first check that the MetaTrader 4 platform is connected to your trading broker by looking at these MT4 connection bars in the MetaTrader 4 status bar - MetaTrader 4 Charts Not Updating.
To see the status bars on the MT4 platform, a trader has to use the "Status Bar" button in the 'View' menu choices like the picture shows below, Click to check, and once you check it, the MetaTrader 4 status bar will appear at the lower right of your MT4 Platform.

Verification Steps to Confirm an Active Internet Connection within the MetaTrader 4 Environment
MetaTrader 4 Platform Connectivity Indication: The connection status is visualized via bars on the Status Bar: Green Bars signify an active, online connection, whereas Red Bars denote an offline status. The disruption can stem from either your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the broker's server. Typically, the ISP is the more frequent culprit, as brokers generally maintain two to three redundant servers, making it highly improbable for all of them to simultaneously fail, even momentarily.
