MT4 Platform Training Guide

MetaTrader 4 Data window shows info about a price, for a specified candlestick period. For illustration the charts below, shows how to choose the info panel from the view menu options.(Ctrl+D) is the shortcut key for displaying the info window without having to access it from the view menu)

Data Window - MT4 Software

Once the info window is selected it will show, the following info about a price.

The following data for trading is displayed and shown:

Gold Chart
Date
Time
Open Price
High
Low
Close Price
Volume

This data will show info for a particular candlestick, by scrolling your mouse over the candles on a chart this data will change to reflect the price candle which the mouse has pointed at.

The data window isn't popularly used in the MetaTrader 4 Platform as compared & analyzed to the other MT4 chart windows. However as a xauusd gold trader you as a trader can use this data panel to extract & display information & data about any trading price candle & prices associated with this candle like the opening price data, closing price data and high & low of price.

Because many traders can obtain this information directly from the charts, then the Gold traders may prefer to use the information that is readily available on the chart within the MT4 platform inter-face.

Another strategy to get this data is to use the Cross Hair Mouse Pointer, To get the Cross Hair Mouse Pointer a trader only requires to press down and hold downwards the wheel mouse button & the Cross Hair then will appear. If your mouse doesn't have a mouse wheel button, please go and buy another mouse so that you as a trader can trade the MetaTrader 4 cross hair. And from the Cross-Hair a gold trader can get the price info like illustrated below.

From the Cross Hair above the vertical line will show data on the date for the present candlestick, the horizontal line will show trading price at that particular point on the chart. For the above example of chart you as a trader can see that the date is 2013.10.31 4:00GMT and the Price is shown for the chosen point. The Open, High, Low, Close & Volume & also the Date is Shown and Displayed Just below the Charts tab at the bottom of the MetaTrader 4 Software Platform, Marked as O: H: L: C: V: therefore the crosshair is a shortcut technique of viewing data instead of going to the Data Window Panel of the MT4

One can even click one point, hold down the mouse and move the mouse to another chart level to measure the pip movement of price from point to point on the charts in the MetaTrader 4 Software as Shown Below.
