How to Draw Trendlines on MetaTrader 4 Charts

Diagonal support and resistance lines often resemble staircases, forming trends that indicate consistent price movement in one direction.

A trend line indicator shows where price might find support or resistance, based on where the chart is going. If the trend goes up, the trendline indicator shows support: if it goes down, it shows resistance, and investors often use them to find these areas.

A trendline is a straight line that links two or more price points and stretches into the future to show potential support or resistance levels. There are two main types: one that goes up and one that goes down. The trendline indicator is a tool for analysis that uses these lines to try to guess where the prices might move. It's important for a trader to know how to draw and understand the signals from this trendline tool.

The idea that prices tend to move in certain patterns is the basis for looking at these trendlines. The Trend Line tool is used to point out three things.

  • The overall direction of market prices - up/down.
  • The power of the current move - and
  • Where future support and resistance will be likely located

If trendlines form in a certain direction then prices generally moves & heads in that particular direction for a period of time until a time when the trend line is broken.

Drawing a trendline on a chart shows the general way prices are moving, which might be going up or going down overall.
