MetaTrader 4 Chart Time Frames: Periodicity on Charts in MetaTrader 4
Periodicity is often known as Chart Timeframes by many traders. On the MetaTrader 4 platform.
The button below is used to select the periodicity or chart timeframe to trade with. This button can be accessed on the MT4 platform as cited below.
MT4 Chart Timeframes
On MT4 platform these chart time-frames are:
- 1 Min Timeframe - M1
- 5 Minute Time Frame - M5
- 15 Minute Timeframe - M15
- 30 Minute Time Frame - M30
- 1 Hour Time Frame - H1
- 4 Hours Chart Timeframe - H4
- Daily Chart Time Frame - D1
- Weekly Chart Time Frame - W1
- Monthly Time Frame - MN
How to Know Which Time Frame You are Using
A common question especially if you are new to gold trading would be how to identify which chart timeframe you are using on your MT4 platform:
There are various methods of knowing which MT4 chart time frame you are using as Shown below:
Use the above Menu as Shown above
In the above example once you choose the periodicity button under the charts menu, then the listing of MT4 chart timeframes is shown and the chart time-frame that's currently selected, the one that you are using will be high-lighted with a different colour, on our example above this is the 1 Hour(H1) time frame, whose Icon on the left is high lighted in light blue.
MT4 Gold Chart Change Chart Timeframe - How to Change MT4 Gold Chart Time-Frame
This MT4 periodicity toolbar is by default located at the top of the MT4 platform and has all the chart time-frames highlighted as cited below. The chart time-frame that a trader is using will be marked differently from the other chart time-frames, the chosen chart time frame will be "indented" as shown below:

When you open a chart you can then use above three methods to know which periodicity - chart time-frame you're trading with.
You can also use the tabs, if you're trading many charts. To view this tab, Go to "View Menu" then Choose "Charts Bar". The following MT4 bar will then appear that you can use to navigate & it indicates the chart as well as the chart time-frame.
